This lady on the other hand is a professional.

My efforts with the lad of late manage to bring us both to tears...and not of the good kind.

My cousin posted that the other day.

I’m not sure how accurate those fractions are though. I need to do my own study into it.

I’m a teacher, we’re all home and would rather be back in class (if there wasn’t a pandemic). Just about all the teachers I know are either drinking more or eating more ice cream (or both).

What were you trying to teach your kid? I might be able to steer you towards some good resources to help.

It’s basically the punchline....

Frankly, the whole timing of the performance suggests either a gifted teacher or hours and hours of commited practice.

Try for six eighths... it's so fiddly that you run out of source material surprisingly quickly!

More is a bad sign given the typical baseline...there won’t be enough ice cream!!

It’s his spelling. His reading, comprehension and vocabulary is well over that of the average 10 year old but the spelling (and to some extent his handwriting) is cruelling his confidence in writing down his ideas and interpretations when he’s required to. He’s struggling with spelling even when doing ‘look:hide:spell’ exercises...and I struggle with the idea that a kid can easily read the word ‘understand’ but not seemingly be able to spell it...

You need to think outside the box, or rather inside the box. The box of wine.

Kinja'd!!!

3 litres should fill plenty of glasses.

((the Soleil while cheap, isn’t at all bad to drink))

It was either me or the whiskey I’m drinking, there is quite a bit less whiskey in the bottle than when I started drinking it.

Oh dear sweet baby angels...boxed wine. I haven’t drunk that stuff since we moved to where it is made 15 years ago. And then I learned how it was made...

So now there is a dollars per 100 ml lower limit.

Sometimes an adul t Capri-Sun is needed.

Kinja'd!!!

Yeah it’s not the best, but I’d rather think that than Fosters, Budweiser, Coors, etc...

Fair enough then. Just remember you chose to adopt the boxed wine.

We were born in it. Moulded by it.

Oh I really appreciate a really good bottle of wine.

But like the whisk’ e’ y I’ve been supping for the last couple of hours, Auchentoshan, American Oak, it’s triple distilled Scotch whisky which is £32, but we often have it on sale for £20 in my store . It means I can enjoy a good drink that isn’t going to drain the bank or waste my good stuff just because I had an exhausting night at work.

Sometimes the boxed wine is better than some of the mid-priced bottled wines I’ve come across.

My son always wanted to be home- schooled. He said to us just yesterday, “I thought this would be better.” Watch what you wish for, son. Sometimes you get it.

In our case, school has switched to an online format. He still has a few lectures, but most of it has switched to reading the materials and completing assignments. That means the kids have to be disciplined about their schedules - something our son has trouble with. Now he has two parents constantly checking in on him and he hates it.

We start our E-learning on Monday. How many of our brethren do you reckon will be doing their E-learning with some amount of booze in their system?

I'll be shocked if somewhere across the nation some teacher doesn't bust themselves by accidentally showing the wine bottle/beer can/etc on their webcam to their students.

that’s not a bad drop. I’ve had a couple of Balvenie’s tonight. That’s my nice but not crazy high priced go to.

Here in A us the $8 Frui ty  Lexia boxes of cask wine were the closest thing we have to a coming of age ceremony.

Thank you for sharing, my Wife wasn’t much of a drinker before all this. Now we’re down two bottles of wine this week already. I’m betting she’ll be sipping bourbon with me  by week three.

Over here it’s cider, vodka and ‘alco-pops’ (like orangeade and/or other flavours with alcohol in it). You can get 2 litres of 7.5% cider for about £2. It was only about £1 when I was a kid. It did the job.

I can remember going to see a Macbeth live play at a theatre in Kendal with some others from school with some teachers. On the way to the bus we stopped down a lane, drank a load of cheap lager and cider (finished what was left, on the bus. I don’t remember much of the play other than we enjoyed it and had a quiet laugh doing so. Happy days.

We closed our school early and were able to get rolling very quickly. We’ve now transitioned to daily half an hour live classes. I threw together a whole unit on sustainable desert design. The kids will be learning about the Sonoran Desert Ecosystem and designing a building using biomimicry techniques. I’m at a private school catering to kids with learning challenges (ADD/HD, autism, dyslexia) and the associated anxiety disorders related to them. Trying to find a routine has been a nightmare.

For anyone teaching science or STEM classes, the University of Colorado has a whole bunch of free science   curriculum following NGSS.

Our son’s school has an official check-in window. The kids have to get online and mark themselves present between 7:30 and 8:30 every morning. Even though I told   him to get out of the bed this morning, my son missed the window today. I’m not sure what the consequences will be, but at least we know that not checking in on time does not mean he can’t do his schoolwork for the day.

The gov placed big taxes on “premixed” and Alcopops to reduce underage and excessive young adult drinking.

But didn’t tax boxed wine further because reasons

I got a similar experience about going to see Rosencranz and Guildenstern in Bondi. Can’t remember the show, but was tickled enough to have a great time.

Nice one. It’s all part of growing up for most of us.

Alcopops died off a while back but they are slowly making a come back.
